Press Statement on the Phone Call between Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın and UK National Security Adviser Tim Barrow

Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador İbrahim Kalın spoke by phone with the United Kingdom National Security and Foreign Policy Adviser Tim Barrow.

The call addressed the bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation in defense industry, the latest developments in the Ukraine war, Syria, and the fight against terror.

It was stated that the prolongation of the Ukraine war deepens humanitarian crises and aggravates the energy, food and economic fragility at a global a scale. It was stressed that it is of tremendous importance to support Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts in order to end the war and return to the negotiating table.   

Pleasure over the extension of the grain deal was expressed and it was pointed out that the grain shipment needs to be maintained in a more effective manner.

It was highlighted that the operations launched on Syria following the terrorist attack in Istanbul target the terrorist organizations PKK/PYD/YPG, which threaten Türkiye’s national security. It was underlined that Türkiye, within this framework, has the right to legitimate self-defense as per Article 51 of the UN Charter.

It was agreed that the bilateral cooperation in defense industry, including the TF-X project, would be expanded between the two countries and that concrete projects would be implemented.
